676 Nuevo Tango Ensemble

The name of the ensemble is a declaration of intent. It refers also to 'Tucuman 676', the famous Buenos Aires club of the early sixties. This was where all the big names of jazz, tango and bossa nova congregated and sought inspiration from one another. The establishment's intimate atmosphere sparked off a lively musical tradition.

The musical style of 676 verges on the exciting border between jazz and tango. The ensemble's repertoire is as far-reaching as the musical heritage of its members. The main emphasis is on their own compositions and those of Astor Piazzolla. The input of each outstanding musician of 676 is inspired by his own musical background. Through a concentrated and close work together, the group has developed a new and unique style which moves and captivates audiences.

676 leads on from this tradition. Consisting of five musicians led by founder Daniel Zisman, the interpretations of this young group embody the richness of a wide variety of styles. 'Jazz' and 'classical music' unite, alongside close musical and personal ties with Buenos Aires, to emerge as a very special and individual quintet.

There is an immediate rapport between the musicians and the public. This is only possible in an intimate setting where this unique dialogue can be appreciated in its original form. Here the tango is perhaps less spectacular than most big shows, but it resounds as a truly lively, modern – and authentic – art form.
